A man hires an autorickshaw to cover a certain distance. He covers first 5/3 km at the rate of Rs 6 per km and subsequent 177/5 km at the rate of Rs 10 per km. He gave Rs 380 to the auto driver. Find the amount paid back by the auto driver.(8th class maths)

 

A man hires an auto rickshaw  to cover a certain distance. He covers first 5/3 km at the rate of Rs 6 per km and subsequent 177/5 km at the rate of Rs 10 per km. He gave Rs 380 to the auto driver. Find the amount  paid back by the auto driver.

Solution: 

Cost of  5/3 km at Rs 6 per km = 5/3 × 6

                                                  = Rs 10

Cost of  177/5 km at Rs 10 per km = 177/5 × 10

                                                         = Rs 354

                                        Total cost = Rs (10+354)

                                                         = Rs 364

                                       Money left = 380 – 364

                                                          = Rs 16

Hence,the amount paid back by the auto driver  is Rs 16.    Ans.
